Hello there;

1, go into the folder which contains the files when you enter into the
folder you hear,
Not selected 1 of however many files there are.
Hold down the ctrl-key, and arrow down,
Jaws will announce, not selectede,
When you come to a file you wish to highlight/select,
Press the spacebar,
Note if your going to select more than one file, you must keep the ctrl-key
held down.
This is selecting non contiguous files.

If I want to select files (pictures for example), say the first, 5th and 9th
one, how do I select/highlight them?

I am using Jaws and Vista.
